Volunteering

AIMS AND PRINCIPLES

Oasis are committed to the use the volunteers to support their work. Using volunteers enables Oasis to give women in the community the opportunity to be involved in services to women who have experienced domestic violence in a variety of ways. It also raises awareness about domestic violence within the locality. It is our belief that volunteers, with their varied skills, compliment the work of the staff and enrich and extend the services offered by the organisation.

Efforts will be made to involve women who are underrepresented in the Group. This may include women from black and minority ethnic groups, women with a physical or learning disability and women from a range of backgrounds generally.
THE SCOPE OF VOLUNTEERING WITHIN OASIS

At Oasis we support volunteers to work with us in a range of ways. The types of activity that volunteers can be involved in is set out below:

  • General administration such as filing, keeping statistics, financial issues etc
  • Campaigning, fundraising and raising awareness
  • As a member of the management committee
The function of a volunteer is to supplement the service in a planned and supported way. All volunteers are subject to a recruitment process which includes references and an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check.
